Can this be a time for reflection for (modern) schooling that is ~200 years old in India?

This survey named "Will our children's education be affected?" provoked a certain line of thought on possibilities before educators in these interesting times. 

What have schools been doing all this while for the last 200 years, if they haven’t equipped children to own their learning?

With humility I felt, the survey seems to be assuming a premise already - the worldview of industrial schooling that we all inhabit in our society. And from there all questions flow. I have challenged that premise and offered different perspectives.

We need to ask right back upto Lord Macaulay whose well thought out colonial principles of domination still form the bed-rock of schooling of our children today.

Can us educators, interpret this pause as a way to contemplate how has the education pursuit of our world / country doing?

Can this be seen as an opportunity to enable children and adults around them to

• Learn local
• From local material, local people
• From their parents
• Appreciate other forms of knowledge systems that are still present but dying soon
• Going to our grand elders and learning about relationships, beliefs etc
• Learning about Water, food, forest from other worldviews (e.g. https://www.ted.com/talks/anupam_mishra_the_ancient_ingenuity_of_water_harvesting?language=en)
• Reorient our relationship with nature
• Starting a small garden (from little balconies in urban to large backyard in rural)
• Noticing what and how we eat
• Appreciate a local language (often mother tongue) of their community
• Learn a story and a poem in their local
• For senior students, supporting reflection of cultural meanings in language

Can we notice

• Schools have been serving industry more than community
• The kind of individual characteristics, schooling has been producing.
• The mono-worldview that we have created
• Relationship of schooling to our response to corona-virus (https://charleseisenstein.org/essays/the-coronation/)
• Relationship of schooling to multi-fold crises that humanity faces
• Relationship with Economics that serve only a few at the cost of others and the planet

 What are little cracks of hope within industrial schooling that we can support?

• Feminine
• Happiness

At the base of it, can we move a few steps from industrial to sacred. Happy to be of service in this pursuit of making education more holistic, feminine and in service of the sacred human evolution.
